Dear Friends

We greet you in Jesus precious name at this very exciting time in the history of the world.
Like never before, people are searching for the truth.  The scripture that comes to mind at the moment is Phil.4:6 which says, 'Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God'.

I have just returned from George in the Southern Cape.  I saw something I have never seen before in my life.  On a Tuesday afternoon, a working day, the whole town came to a standstill, from the Mayor's office right down to the school children.  They congregated at the Outeniqua Rugby Stadium.  There was in excess of 14000 people there, packed into the grandstands and on the field.  The announcer had to ask the crowd on the field to move closer to the platform to enable the people waiting outside to come in.  There is a tremendous need in people's lives today, like never before, to meet with God.

They came together to pray for rain.  That area is experiencing the worst drought in 135 years.  Although everything looks green, it is what they call a 'green drought', if you dig 2 inches under the ground, everything is bone dry.

But God is faithful!  Many of us are gripped in the middle of the recession, others are struggling and fighting with moral issues, relationship and health issues.  God has a word for us, He asks us 'what good has worry ever accomplished?'  A man by the name of Darlow Sargeant says 'it has never made anyone stronger, it has never helped anyone to do God's will, or provided for anyone a way of escape out of their anxiety or confusion.  Worry only destroys the effectiveness of lives that would otherwise be useful and beautiful'.

As we concluded that meeting, many, many souls, up to two-thirds of the crowd, made first time commitments publically in the sight of everyone and especially in the sight of our Lord Jesus Christ.  We then asked God to send us rain, first the spiritual and then the physical.  I believe that rain is on its way, a good steady soaking rain to get the streams and rivers running and to fill the dams.

I want to encourage you too, my friend, to pray that God would do the same in your life, first the spiritual and then the physical, that God would comfort you and that He would defend and deliver you, as He has always done in the past.  Speak to your soul today and say 'return to your place of peace and rest within the sweet embrace of the Lord Jesus Christ'.

Phil.4:7 says 'And the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus'.

May God bless you richly.

Angus Buchan Biography

The title ‘Faith Like Potatoes’ came from a famous American lecturer who used to tell his students that they needed faith like potatoes.  He meant that their faith needed to have flesh and needed substance.  As Hebrews 11:1 says, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not yet seen.”  Angus Buchan not only had faith like potatoes, he had faith for potatoes as well.

Beth Hatlaim Children’s Home (House Of Lambs)

The children’s home is based on Shalom farm and is being run by Angus’s youngest son Fergus and his wife Ashley Buchan.

Beth-Hatlaim aims to provide a permanent home for children, who have been abandoned or orphaned, with no known relatives. They provide care for children who have been infected or affected by HIV/Aids. The Aids epidemic has drastically increased the number of orphaned children in our province and children’s homes such as Beth have become a necessity in our society as more children are abandoned and left to fend for themselves.

They have recently completed two more cottages, bringing the total up to six. Their vision is to have thirty cottages to accommodate 180 children. Beth-Hatlaim is committed to providing a home for the children where they receive well balanced meals, health care, education, clothing, transportation, spiritual nurturing, recreational outings and activities, through dedicated house mother’s making sure that each child receives the care they need.

Statement of Faith PDF Print E-mail
We believe…

  • The Bible to be the inspired, the infallible, authoritative Word of God.
  • In the Eternal Triune God.
  • In the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
  • That for the salvation of the lost and sinful man, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
  • In the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by Whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
  • In the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
  • In the creation, test and fall of man, as recorded in Genesis; his total spiritual depravity and inability to attain to divine righteousness apart from God.
  • In the Lord Jesus Christ, the Saviour of men, conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, very God and very Man.
  • In the Spiritual Unity of Believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
