Dear Friends
The Lord Jesus Christ has called you and me to be his ambassadors (2 Cor.5:20), 'Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ as though God were pleading through us, we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God'.
Oh, my friend, you know it is easier to go into the jungles of Africa, the deserts of the Sahara and the Sudan, the depths of the Amazon jungle, and preach to the heathen, than to be a Christian in your very own home! Today, make a point of starting with your own spouse and children, with your parents and your brothers and sisters. Truly if we don't get it right there, we do not actually have a right to go into the outer ends of the earth and preach the gospel to the lost. Jesus always does it the right way around. He said, first Jerusalem, then Judea, then Samaria, then the outer ends of the earth. There is no family, that I have ever met, that has not had confrontations. It is not about never having an argument, it is about saying sorry. It takes a lot of courage and a lot of discipline to humble yourself and to reconcile with your family member. It is so easy to say, 'well, it is not my fault'. It is not about that, it doesn't matter whose fault it is, the Lord says that we are called to a ministry of reconciliation, 2 Cor.5:18.
If you humble yourself in the sight of God, He will raise you up and give you the courage and strength to say sorry. Remember the commandment in the Bible that says 'Honour your father and your mother so that your days may be long in the land'. That is a promise from God. If you cannot get on with your parents or your brothers and sisters, how can you expect to live a life blessed of God? Charity (love) begins at home, we need to start at base camp.
Why do I speak of these things? Simply because I also am a family man, I have a wife and children, I have grandchildren and adopted children and I have spiritual sons. The Lord has spoken to me more than once, I cannot go into the world and be an ambassador for Jesus Christ if back at homebase the wheels are coming off, as it were. That is why that great man of God, William Booth, a great Methodist evangelist who founded the Salvation Army, always said 'Hold the fort,' when he went out on a preaching or evangelistic engagement to another land. The Salvation Army do not have a church, they have a citadel, a fort, because the whole movement is geared up in a military way and we praise God for that. He said 'hold the fort' meaning keep things going in a godly way while I am away.
Jesus says in 1 John 4:20, If someone says, 'I love God', and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? That is why we know that Christianity is not for sissies.
May God bless you this day as you do your witnessing and your Christian outreach within the confines of your very own home.
