Dear Friends
Again it is a great pleasure to write to you on this wet, rainy morning. I am reminded of what took place last Friday when my son-in-law, Greg Hull, and I, flew down to Port Elizabeth and then drove to Uitenhage with a local farmer, Malcolm Mackenzie, to an indoor sports centre packed with between 2-3000 people, standing deep in the doors and in the arches, people desperate for rain. As the plane was landing I thought that the Lord was already ahead of us - we were going to pray for rain and what I thought was mist was coming across the runway, only to be told it was a bush fire. It was so dry that the very fynbos was burning. We all prayed the prayer of faith, we repented according to 2 Chron.7:14, we humbled ourselves and confessed our sins and rededicated our lives to the Lord and most important, hundreds of first time commitments took place at that meeting. When we left Uitenhage to return to Port Elizabeth, there wasn't a cloud the size of a man's fist in the sky. Subsequent to that I realised why, because God says He will share His glory with no man. By the time we got to the airport the first sms had already come in, that 40mm of rain had fallen in Graaff-Reinet. My spirit jumped within me! When I got home the sms's started to come in from all over. Jannie Moolman, who farms near Middelburg in the Karoo was weeping when him and his wife parked their bakkie in the veld and saw God bless them with 2.5 inches (almost 70mm) of rain. God is so good!
I recently read this in 'Streams in the Desert' - 'Whatever our faith says God is, He will be'. Once again God has just impressed upon me, it is not prayer that He responds to, but the prayer of faith. I would encourage you at this critical time in our nation and indeed in the world, to start to pray prayers of faith, not just prayers, and start to see the things that aren't as if they were.
MMC 2009: Once again we are walking on the water! It is a matter of weeks now before probably the biggest men's gathering that has ever taken place will happen at Shalom for a full weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We are going openair, installing something like 8km piping, (a million gallons of water will be used every time the men shower), organising pickup points all over Kwazulu Natal, military airbases outside Durban are being made available for the men to land and then they will be transported to the conference. Men are coming from all over the world. The stage for the event is going to take more time to erect than the whole tent took last year. There will be 4 screens, weighing about 3.5 tons each, which can be viewed from over 350 metres away. Close on 40 hectares of land have been set aside for seating for the men. We have never been so excited or so stressed before! I can't wait for all of you to join us as we meet with the living God. We will be talking about 'men of promise' - the promise which God gave to the man of faith, Abraham, was Isaac, and we are the fruit of that promise.
Like never before, God is calling men and women, boys and girls, to stand up and be counted for Jesus Christ. That takes faith and faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God, Romans 10:17.
In less that 2 weeks we leave for Perth, Australia (MMC 27 Feb - 1 Mar). Temperatures are soaring up to 39 degrees and there have been devastating bushfires. We really ask you to pray for us, that God will do a mighty work. I believe that close on 1000 men have registered for the men's conference. I will be accompanied by my younger son, Fergie, and Joe Niemand, who will sing some of his beautiful songs.
'Grassroots' is now on TV 6 times a week: TBN 3 times, CTV, Rhema Channel and ETV. Please pray for the 'Grassroots' broadcasts on ETV at 6.30am on Sunday mornings. We are very excited to be told by the producers that the viewership on this broadcast has reached 470,000 and we just thank God for that, however, with the blessing always come the challenges and we ask you to keep us in your prayers.
We are busy with our first volume of 'Grassroots' being put into book form and we look forward to having copies available by the MMC.
Please continue to pray for us, as we pray for you and for our beloved South Africa.
Yours in Christ's service
Angus & Jill and the Shalom team
